    This listing is for the older hat mold shown.    We do not know how to identify wood, so all I can tell you is that it is a heavier piece.     Walnut colored.    Measures approx 7.5" high x 5.25" across the top (has a circle indent pattern on top).   And it measures approx 5.75" across the bottom.  There are 3 empty nail holes on the bottom and marks from hammering something circular there.
    I suppose this could also be a base for embossing or other tool.    It is a heavyweight wood.
    Some cracks and some surface wear as shown.
